IAPC Outstanding Achievement Award Recipients

IAPC honors those making contributions to our industry through promoting protocol, etiquette, and civility worldwide!

The International Association of Protocol Consultants® recognizes an individual’s exceptional contribution to the protocol and etiquette industry by presenting its Outstanding Achievement Award. Established in 2004 by Alinda Lewris, the Founder of IAPC, the award also recognizes an individual’s volunteer service during a given period, in this case, one year.  Bestowed for a specific effort, it can be awarded more than once.

The selection criteria includes:

  • Contribution to the protocol and etiquette industry
  • Quality volunteer service to the International Association of Protocol Consultants®
  • Demonstrated initiative, thoroughness, enthusiasm and support of IAPC’s mission, goals, and educational endeavors

Mr. Axtell is recognized as an authority on
international protocol, customs, and business etiquette.

Roger Axtell is recognized as an authority on international protocol, customs, and business etiquette. He worked 30 years for The Parker Pen Co., retiring as Vice-president, Worldwide Marketing. Since 1985, he has written nine books in his "Do's & Taboos" series on international business, travel, customs, etiquette, gestures, and humor. A tenth book will be released in September. Because of his books, World Trade magazine in June 1998 named him one of the twenty-five most influential people in international trade.

Since 1997, Axtell has served as vice-chair of the Governor's Task Force on International Education and was a member of the Governor's Commission on University of Wisconsin's System Compensation (1992) and the resulting Governor's Task Force on UW System Accountability (1993). He is a graduate of UW-Madison ('53). In 1999, Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson appointed him to a seven-year term on the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, which oversees 26 campuses in Wisconsin serving 160,000 students.

As a charter and Honorary Member of IAPC, he has generously given of his time and continues to provide leadership by serving on our Independent Education Oversight Committee.

Axtell says, I am delighted to commend the International Association of Protocol Consultants/Officers (IAPC) to all interested persons throughout the world and wish much success in IAPC’s continual growth as a much-needed association for the protocol and etiquette industry.

Presented 6 May 2006 by Alinda Lewris to Dr Pier Massimo Forni at The Willard InterContinental Hotel, Washington, D.C.. 

Dr. Forni is a professor of Italian Literature at Johns Hopkins University and co-founder of The Johns Hopkins Civility Project.  He has generously given of his time and insight to IAPC leadership. He is a most esteemed resource, colleague, and friend to IAPC. As an IAPC Charter and Honorary Member, he has served in the following ways:

  • Authored an article in celebration of IAPC’s premier issue of Protocol Today, Ethical Action and Relational Competence – Why Manners and Civility are Good (Fall 2003)
  • Delivered the keynote address at our Premier Conference, Civility, Ethics, and Quality of Life (September 2004)
  • Joined an IAPC team of international authors from protocol and related disciplines who made history by writing the first ever International Protocol Chapter for the Convention Industry Council’s International Manual (1st Edition released June 2005)
  • Addressed our Educational Symposium as featured speaker, Relational Competence in the Workplace: the High Road and the Bottom Line.  (September  2005)
  • Choosing Civility: The 25 Rules of Considerate Conduct is one of the “required reading texts” for our Certification Programs.

Dr. P.M. Forni says, Social skills strengthen social bonds.

Letitia Baldrige

Ms. Baldrige served as Jacqueline Kennedy's Chief of Staff, former
White House Social Secretary, and has written numerous books about manners.

Presented 22 September 2005 by Alinda Lewris to Letitia Baldrige at The Willard InterContinental Hotel, Washington DC.

Baldrige’s career began in American Embassies and the Kennedy White House.  Since 1950, she has been teaching, speaking, and writing as America’s leading arbiter of manners.  Her 21st book, Letitia Baldrige's New Manners for New Times: A Complete Guide to Etiquette, is filled with wisdom acquired through a lifetime of working in the field of protocol and etiquette.  It is one of five “required reading texts” for our Certification Programs.

Baldrige has generously given of her time and insight to IAPC leadership.  She is one of our most esteemed resource.  As an IAPC Honorary Member this past year she has been: 

  • Keynote speaker at IAPC’s Premier Conference Inaugural Dinner (September 2004)
  • Featured speaker at our Symposium, Another Kind of Social Security: The Manners You Need to Succeed in the Workplace. (April 2005)
  • A member of IAPC’s team of international authors from protocol and related disciplines who made history by writing the first ever International Protocol Chapter for the Convention Industry Council’s International Manual (1st Edition released June 2005)
  • A member of IAPC’s Education Review Board
  • An IAPC author and written several quarterly columns featured in IAPC’s Protocol Today
  • Available for conversations and photographs with us today!

Baldrige says, The hope for the United States in the tough times ahead will be to have good global economic warriors.
